learning, intelligence and wisdom
There are basically two ways of life when it comes to knowledge – learning and intelligence. And then there is a combination way -to create wisdom – to make three ways of life.
The is also a negative way of life that i don’t count, and that is to be dumb and stupid.
Learning is basically made of facts. i have met people who were very learned, had degrees and high IQ’s, but were basically stupid.
One such fellow I met in 1972 had an IQ in the 170’s, held the the patent to creating artificial diamonds and was looking to get $30,000 to get someone to tell him what to do with the diamonds to make money! $30,000 in 1972 was worth 20 times in today’s money so he was trying to raise $600.000 to get someone to tell him what to do with it! He was learned enough to create artificial diamonds, but too stupid to know what to do with it!
I suggested that he put small diamonds on the end of a stick and sell them as glass cutters but “No, that was a stupid idea!” Diamond glass cutters sold at the time for $49 each – at that time $49 dollars was nearly a week’s income! What is a weeks income today?
His thinking was to go into space and manufacture perfectly round, ruby ball bearing! That was over 40 years ago and we still haven’t gotten to the stage where we are colonizing space and manufacturing up there! He was learned, but stupid! Of course he only had 19 year to monetize his invention and that quickly passed. Today the Chinese are manufacturing diamonds and selling diamond tools for a few dollars! I bought three diamond “sandpapers” for $2 a couple of years ago and still have them!
And that is learned thinking. I had initially written learned intelligence, but it is not really intelligent to be learned alone
Then there is native intelligence. Native intelligence consists of one thing – being able to distinguish between truth and falsehood by our own abilities. This is a much scarcer item indeed! But i have also met people who were natively intelligent – quite a few actually. One was a simple Muslim janitor. Another was a Solomon islander who was a repairman. These are just two examples. I am also natively intelligent.
The main difference between the two states is that native thinkers never accept learning as the truth without testing it to see if it actually is true or not! I’ll repeat that because it is very important – native thinkers never accept learning as the truth without testing it to see if it actually is true or not! If they test it and find it is not true they simply discard it! If they test it and find it is true then they absorb it into there lives and practice that truth! This is the foundation of wisdom.
The manifestation of wisdom comes from those who are natively intelligent and who train in learning, thus combining the two together. These people reach a state call “Mastery” and become masters in there own right. John Lennon, Albert Einstein, Newton, Abraham Lincoln are but a few examples. Wisdom, like wealth, is seldom achieved through “learning institutes” because the teachers don’t have native intelligence and therefore cannot teach it!
So what i have said so far can be summed up in a simple formula. Wisdom equals native intelligence + learning + application!
Looked at another way native intelligence = soul learning, learning = brain learning and application = Spiritual(God/Love) application of learning! So wisdom is a combination, a synergy, of the brain, the soul and the spirit in application.
No talent is worth anything unless applied. I have met extremely talented people who never applied their talents. One was a lady with a God-given voice that sounded like a sweeter version of Barbra Streisand! Just being in her presence and listening to her sing bought tears to your eyes! But she never applied that talent, never tried to serve people with it and so never succeeded. I am a minor musician myself and i teach people how to play the guitar in a month. After that i try to get them performing because learning is the work of music, but performance is the reward of music! It is only in the application of our talents that we serve others and help to create a divine civilization and reap the rewards in a material way!
In the bible this combined Spirit, Soul and Brain is called a house (the house is us, you and I) united. We all consist of soul and brain. But it is the synergisation with spirit that makes us whole (holy – holy is a biblical word that means whole). “A house (internally) divided (unsynergised) will never win!” This is expressed as a double negative(old age speech) so if we turn it into a single positive(New Age speaking) we read, “a house united(synergised) will always win!” Are you looking for the winning formula – well, THERE IT IS!
Our unification consists of uniting the two inner forces of intelligence – brain and soul – with the outer force of intelligence – the spirit! Until this is achieved we work on an energy base of 11(brain) or 111(soul). Once we combine with the spirit we work on an energy level of 1,111 or even 11,111 The extra 1 comes from the body where we manifest a lot of our intelligence through good works, to help create a divine civilization in the world! The extra 1,000 or 10,000 comes from the spirit (water = 1,000, Fire = 10,000.)
Helping to create a divine civilization is the job of every soul on the planet, did we but recognize it! And so we come the the very foundation of this earthly life. We are not here to fritter and waste our lives away. We are here to help make the world a better place when we leave it, than it was when we entered it. Put spiritually, to do this is to “help create a divine civilization!”
Native intelligence is an essential part of our “job” on earth because if we cannot tell what is truth and what is false for ourselves, how will we ever recognize the falsities of earthly life and try too change them into truths?
The way of the brain is truth and falsehood. The way of the soul is the truth. The way of the spirit is Truth (note the capital T) and we “shall Know the Truth and the Truth will set us Free!”

Spirituality is a universal experience of transcendent Reality, common to all humanity
I have a friend in Malaysia and he posted a quote on facebook by Swami Vivekananda, who I had never heard of, so I looked him up on google and found a page dedicated to him. And there I found another quote which really struck a bell with me, as an excellent definition of what spirituality is. The quote goes, “religion is a universal experience of transcendent Reality, common to all humanity”. I have replaced the word religion with the word spirituality to bring it up to date, so it now reads, “Spirituality is a universal experience of transcendent Reality, common to all humanity“. The author of the original quote died in 1902 and lived in a time when organised religion still held dominance. But 110 years later organised religion is dropping away rapidly as the spiritual element has dropped out of them, because we live in a new age! In this new age the spiritual element has become a lot more person from Man to God rather than from Man to church, to God.
This ties in with the Dalai Lama quote of, “People take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness. Just because they’re not on your road as I am doesn’t mean they’re lost!” There are many paths to God, but the one path in common is always Love (I Am/ the Holy Spirit) and Love actions. Don’t criticize someone because their path is different from yours, if their results are the same – the manifestation of Love and good actions. We are all different (i’m not! SMACK!!! LOL!!) some of us are like 5 year olds, some of us are like university scholars. The university scholar should not criticize the 5 year old for his understanding of what makes a car go – the engine! Even though it is only two words long it is still a valid answer for a five year old!
When it comes to spiritual matters the university graduate should try to teach the five year old the next step in the process of love, not try to stuff the entire tree of knowledge down the students throat! One step at a time is all the student can learn! If the student hasn’t learned, it’s because the teacher hasn’t taught! The most common source of this is the teacher teaching 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 or even 100 steps ahead of the student! The skill is knowing what step is the next step! Fortunately with Love all we have to do is ask to be given the next step and it will be provided for us, even to the extent of having our tongues taken over by God and us teaching things we don’t know! So be alert, and listen in and try to understand the new knowledge when that happens to you!
so the quote of the day, of the century for today is…
Spirituality is a universal experience of transcendent Reality, common to all humanity
